It’s another week and another bra!
This week I made the Black Beauty Bra by Emerald Erin for my friend. I am a big fan of this pattern and my pre pregnancy lingerie drawer had many of these. So, it was lovely to use a pattern I was very sewing with and it is such a rewarding make. I choose the strappy option
I don’t make bras for other people often as fitting is a big challenge, but it is something I want to get better at. Ideally, I should measure her myself but that wasn’t possible, so she sent me her measurements and ready to wear (RTW) size. The measurements came in at a 32 D which didn’t look right as her RTW is 32A. I sized up to a 34B and hopefully I got it right, if not, there is always next week!
I used a black lace with green detailing, the pop of green is seasonally appropriate for March! It is stretch lace but I used a rigid non stretch sheer cup lining as the “working fabric”. I love sheer cup lining, it is strong, supportive and yet looks sexy and delicate on its own.
The bra sewed up beautifully. I took extra care because it is a gift and enclosed all the seams and took care to match all the findings. A tiny bit of extra effort makes such a difference. I think the bras inside is as pretty as the outside! I really hope my friend likes it and that it fits her!
What I used:
1. The Black Beauty sewing pattern
2. Black stretch lace with green details
7. Underwire
10. Black powernet
